Acebutolol, IUPAC name 4-[(2-isopropyl-1-hydroxy-2-phenylethyl)amino]-1,2-benzenediol, is a non-selective β-adrenergic antagonist with intrinsic sympathomimetic activity. Molecular formula C18H23NO3 (molecular weight 305.38 g/mol). Structurally, it contains a catechol moiety, an isopropyl group, and an amine-linked phenyl ring. Therapeutically used for hypertension and angina. Physicochemically, it is a white to off-white solid with moderate water solubility and pKa ~9.5. Mechanism involves competitive inhibition of β1/β2-adrenergic receptors, reducing cardiac output and peripheral vascular resistance, while partial agonism mitigates bronchoconstriction.
