Alogliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, is a synthetic compound with the IUPAC name (3R)-3-amino-1-[(3-fluorophenyl)methyl]-1-oxo-4-[(2-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)amino]butan-2-one. Its molecular formula is C19H17F4N5O2, with a molecular weight of approximately 423.38 g/mol. Structurally, it features a pyrazine ring, a trifluoromethyl group, and a fluoro-substituted benzyl moiety. Therapeutically, it is prescribed for type 2 diabetes mellitus to enhance incretin hormone activity. Alogliptin is a white to off-white solid, sparingly soluble in water, with a melting point of 150โ€“155ยฐC. It acts as a competitive, reversible inhibitor of DPP-4, preventing the degradation of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), thereby promoting glucose-dependent insulin secretion.
