Amisulpride, IUPAC name 10-(3-(piperazin-1-yl)propyl)-10H-phenothiazine-2-propanol, is a phenothiazine derivative with molecular formula C22H29N3O2S and molecular weight 399.2 g/mol. It features a phenothiazine core conjugated to a piperazine side chain. Therapeutically, it treats schizophrenia and Parkinsonian psychosis. Amisulpride is a selective dopamine D2/D3 receptor antagonist, preferentially targeting D3 receptors, modulating dopaminergic pathways. It is a white crystalline solid, sparingly soluble in water (solubility ~0.1 mg/mL), with a melting point of 150โ155ยฐC. Its mechanism involves central dopamine receptor blockade, distinguishing it from typical antipsychotics due to minimal 5-HT2A antagonism.
