Butoconazole, a benzimidazole antifungal agent, is chemically known as 2,4-dichloro-N-(2-(4-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-piperazinyl)ethyl)-1H-benzimidazole. Its molecular formula is C19H19Cl2N5, with a molecular weight of 388.73 g/mol. Structurally, it features a benzimidazole core linked to a piperazine ring and a chlorophenyl group. Therapeutically, it treats superficial fungal infections via topical application. It is a white to off-white solid, with low water solubility and high lipophilicity. Butoconazole inhibits lanosterol 14ฮฑ-demethylase, disrupting ergosterol synthesis in fungal cell membranes.
