Cyclobenzaprine, IUPAC name 1-(4-methylphenyl)-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2(1H)-pyridinone, is a 1,4-benzodiazepine derivative with molecular formula C19H21NO2 (molecular weight 307.38 g/mol). Structurally, it features a fused benzodiazepine core with a methyl-substituted phenyl ring and a pyridinone moiety. Therapeutically, it is indicated for acute musculoskeletal pain relief. It exhibits low water solubility and a pKa of ~7.5. Mechanistically, it acts as a central alpha-adrenergic antagonist, modulating neurotransmitter release to reduce muscle spasticity via central nervous system depression.
