Cyclosporin (IUPAC name: cyclosporin A) is a cyclic undecapeptide with molecular formula C62H111N11O12 and molecular weight 1202.6 g/mol. It belongs to the immunosuppressant class, characterized by a 11-amino acid ring containing non-proteinogenic residues like N-methylated amino acids and D-amino acids. Therapeutically used in organ transplantation and autoimmune disorders. Physicochemically, it exhibits lipophilicity, low aqueous solubility, and high log P (6.5). Its mechanism involves binding to cyclophilin, forming a complex that inhibits calcineurin phosphatase, thereby suppressing T-cell activation and cytokine production.
