Doxorubicinol (IUPAC name: 10-hydroxydaunorubicin) is an anthracycline antibiotic with molecular formula CโโHโโNOโโ and molecular weight 560.53 g/mol. It features a tetracyclic aglycone core linked to a 14-membered sugar (daunosamine), with a hydroxyl group at position 10. Therapeutically, it is used in oncology for treating leukemias and lymphomas. It exhibits moderate water solubility and red-colored crystalline form. Mechanistically, it intercalates into DNA, inhibits topoisomerase II, and generates reactive oxygen species, inducing DNA damage and apoptosis in cancer cells.
