Erlotinib, IUPAC name N-(3-ethynylphenyl)-6-(5-fluoro-2-pyridinyl)-4-methyl-7-oxo-7H-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidin-5-amine, is a pyrazolopyrimidine derivative with molecular formula C19H12FN5O and molecular weight 345.35 g/mol. It features a fluoro-pyridine and ethynylphenyl substituent on a pyrazolopyrimidine core. Therapeutically, it targets epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase in non-small cell lung and pancreatic cancers. Erlotinib is a yellow solid with low water solubility but high solubility in DMSO. Its mechanism involves irreversible ATP-competitive inhibition of EGFR kinase activity, blocking downstream signaling pathways critical for tumor proliferation.
