Etodolac, with IUPAC name 3,5-Diethyl-4-isoxazoleacetic acid, is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) belonging to the enolic acid class. Its molecular formula is C14H16N2O3, with a molecular weight of 260.24 g/mol. Structurally, it features an isoxazole ring substituted with two ethyl groups and a carboxylic acid moiety. Therapeutically, it is used for analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects. It is a white crystalline solid with low water solubility (pKa ~4.5) and high lipophilicity. Etodolac inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, suppressing prostaglandin synthesis, thereby reducing inflammation and pain.
