๐Ÿ’Š Fenofibrate

7 impuritiess available on this parent drug

Fenofibrate, IUPAC name 4-chloro-benzoyl-ฮฑ-(4-chlorophenoxy)-2-methylpropyl ester, is a fibrate-class hypolipidemic agent with molecular formula C19H19Cl2O3 and molecular weight 365.94 g/mol. Structurally, it features a chlorobenzoyl group linked to a chlorophenoxy moiety via an ester bond. Therapeutically, it targets dyslipidemia by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR-ฮฑ), enhancing fatty acid oxidation and reducing triglyceride synthesis. It is a white to off-white crystalline solid with low water solubility and moderate lipophilicity. Fenofibrate exhibits metabolic stability and is primarily metabolized to fenofibric acid, its active form, which modulates lipid metabolism via PPAR-ฮฑ-mediated transcriptional regulation of hepatic enzymes involved in lipoprotein metabolism.
