Flubendazole, IUPAC name 5-(2-fluorobenzyl)-1H-benzimidazole-2-thiol, is a benzimidazole anthelmintic with molecular formula C12H9FN2S and molecular weight 232.23 g/mol. Its structure features a benzimidazole core substituted with a fluorinated benzyl group. It is used therapeutically to treat parasitic helminth infections. Physicochemically, it is a white to off-white solid with low water solubility and moderate lipophilicity. Mechanistically, flubendazole binds to β-tubulin in parasites, inhibiting microtubule polymerization and disrupting cellular processes essential for parasite survival.
